Regina's Trip To Nicaragua Pictures

Regina showing the coffee cherries, there's approximately 2 beans inside each cherry.

This is Diego Chavarria, the farmer of the 700 acre coffee plantation where Regina stayed. Diego is showing us one of his many coffee plants.

Here is a closer look at Diego showing us the new shoots that are coming in for next years coffee crop.

Regina picking coffee...

This is the wet process, where the beans are removed from the cherry. The flesh of the cherry is fermented and then used as mulch on the coffee farm.

This is where the beans are dried after they have been sent through the wet process.

This is one of the drying fields, the beans are laid out in the sun and dried.

The dried, ready to roast coffee bean.

Here Regina is sorting through the coffee beans that she brought here to The Refinery to roast. All of the beans are sorted by hand for the best and biggest beans. Even the employees children enjoy sorting the coffee beans for fun.

Carrying bags down the mountain to the weighing station
The bags weigh approx.80 pounds each.

This is Lola roasting coffee the old fashioned way, over an open fire using a cast iron wok.

Here Regina trying her hand at a homemade tortilla. (A standard meal at the farm consists of a tortilla filled with rice and beans).
